The result is a set of teeth that feel stable, secure, and which look good. It is a long-term solution, and provided you care for your implants properly, you should enjoy them for many years to come, possibly for life.

What Are the Advantages of Choosing Full Mouth Dental Implants?

Full mouth dental implants provide an alternative solution to full dentures. It’s worth considering this treatment if you are facing complete tooth loss or are struggling with traditional dentures. One popular option is All-on-4 dental implants, which offer a stable, long-lasting solution by supporting a full arch of teeth on just four strategically placed implants.

    Other advantages to consider include:

    1. Increased comfort. Full mouth dental implants will provide you with teeth that feel comfortable. You will notice a difference if you currently struggle with loose dentures that rub uncomfortably on your gums or have failing teeth that make biting and chewing painful.
    2. Better biting strength. Full mouth dental implants will give you a biting strength similar to real teeth. You can enjoy just about any foods you like, including those that are tricky or impossible to eat with ordinary dentures.
    3. Better nutrition. An increased food choice makes it easier to select items that are nutritious. Good nutrition makes it easier to remain healthy and fight infection and disease.
    4. Preventing jawbone loss. When you lose natural teeth, your jawbone automatically begins to resorb without their stimulation. Dental implants restore this stimulation, protecting and preserving the bone around them.
    5. Restoring facial appearance. We custom design every dental implant bridge carefully, ensuring it supports the muscles in your cheeks and lips, restoring facial dimensions and appearance.
    6. Restoring self-confidence. Your smile is an important part of your personality; your self-esteem and self-confidence can suffer when you lose teeth. With your custom-designed implant bridge, your confidence is restored. You can smile, talk, and eat without fear or discomfort.

Who Can Have Full Mouth Implants?

Full mouth implants can be a great solution for people in the following situations.

    • Missing teeth in their upper or lower arch, or both.
    • Good commitment to ongoing oral hygiene, including regular dental visits.
    • Adequate jawbone strength or is suitable for bone grafting.

Whenever anyone visits us for full mouth dental implants, our experienced implant dentists carefully assess their suitability.

The points we consider include your dental and medical health. Medical health is important because you must be able to heal properly after implant surgery. We also need to consider if full mouth implants are the right solution for you and, if so, which option might suit you best.

What Are the Options for Treatment?

Full mouth dental implants can be used to support various types of implant solutions. Possible options include:

    • All-on-Four uses just four dental implants to support a complete arch of teeth.
    • Full-arch dental implants are inserted optimally at intervals along your arch. This solution may require more dental implants than All-on-Four.
    • Implant-supported dentures have a specially adapted denture that clips firmly onto implants but can easily be snapped out for cleaning and maintenance.

Every solution we provide is fully customized to fit your needs. You can choose between fixed and removable implant teeth, and both can provide good results. Some people may find a removable solution is easier to look after.

We can discuss these points with you during your initial consultation and before we plan your treatment.

Full Mouth Dental Implant Procedure: What to Expect during Treatment

There are several steps to this procedure, which we’ve outlined below.

    1. Consultation

Every dental implant procedure begins with a comprehensive consultation during which we determine your suitability and listen carefully to your concerns to understand your treatment goals.

    1. Imaging

Diagnostic imaging is the next step, where we take digital dental X-rays and a cone beam CT scan of your mouth. We may also take digital dental impressions. These images are used during treatment planning for your computer-guided implant surgery.

The images also determine if you have adequate bone for dental implants or if you will require bone grafting before or during implant surgery.

    1. Treatment Planning

During treatment planning, we decide where each implant should be inserted and its angle and depth. Digital images like your cone beam CT scan can be manipulated and viewed from any angle, allowing us to ensure that your implant restorations will look good and function properly.

If treatment planning isn’t carried out correctly, there is a risk that your implant teeth may not function properly or will not look natural. The resulting restoration could be a compromise between functionality and appearance.

Once your treatment plan is complete, we will make a computer-generated stent. It guides our implant dentist during surgery so every implant is inserted precisely into your jawbone.

    1. Preparatory Procedures

Not everyone will need this stage; it is only necessary if you need failing teeth extracted or other treatments like bone grafting.

    1. Implant Surgery

Implant surgery should be completely painless, but if you need multiple implants, we may suggest sedation dentistry to help you relax more fully.

Once your implant surgery is complete, we can provide a temporary restoration to wear during healing. It won’t have the same biting strength as your permanent teeth but will ensure you can eat, talk, and smile confidently.

    1. Recovery after Surgery

Some minor discomfort is perfectly normal after full mouth dental implant surgery. If needed, we can prescribe pain medication or you may be comfortable using over-the-counter painkillers.

While you recover, we can provide clear instructions on looking after your mouth. We may prescribe antibiotics or an antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce the risk of infection.

    1. Implant Healing

Implants need time to fuse with your jawbone during Osseointegration. It is a process that cannot be rushed and takes two to six months to complete.

During this time, it’s important your implants don’t come under any stress and cannot move. If your temporary teeth are attached to your implants, they are designed to help splint them together, preventing movement.

You will need to adjust your diet while your implants heal. We can advise you on which foods to eat, but they should be softer and require minimal chewing.

    1. Making and Fitting Your Permanent Teeth

The final step is to make and fit your permanent implant teeth. After your implants have healed, we take a detailed digital dental impression so your new teeth can be fabricated. Once they are ready, you return to our dental office so we can fit them.

    1. Long-Term Dental Implant Care

Looking after your implant teeth is important. Our hygienists can show you how to thoroughly clean your full mouth dental implants. Regular dental checkups and hygiene appointments are vital so we can clean your implants professionally.

How Much Will Full Mouth Dental Implants Cost?

The cost of full mouth dental implants depends on the following factors:

    • The implant solution recommended and the number of implants required.
    • Whether other treatments are needed, such as tooth extractions or bone grafting.
    • The type of full mouth restoration, as an implant-supported denture is more cost-effective than a full mouth zirconia bridge.

Full mouth dental implants are an investment in your dental health but can be very cost-effective in the longer term because they are long-lasting. Treatment has a high success rate, and it can be difficult to put a value on the sense of well-being achieved by having teeth that are strong, stable, and beautiful.
