Why Dental Implants Aren’t as Painful as You May Think

Did you know that dental implants are less painful than traditional tooth extraction? If you’re considering getting your teeth replaced, this information can be beneficial to you. This blog on dental implants and pain will give you all the facts you need to make an informed decision about your oral health and the best way to proceed with treatment.

What Does The Procedure Feel Like?

Although modern dental implants are successful about 98% of the time, discomfort is sometimes associated with placing a dental implant. And while it’s unlikely that you will experience pain during your procedure, let alone days or weeks later, it’s important to understand what to expect and how long you may feel uncomfortable. During a typical Implant placement procedure, you may feel some pressure or soreness after the anesthesia has worn off.

What to Expect During and After the Surgery

Your dentist will use anesthesia and pain medication when you have a dental implant. This will keep you comfortable throughout the process, which takes about one hour. At ClockTower Dental our patients can expect to feel some minor discomfort for about a week or so after their surgery, but most of them find it’s manageable with oral medication. Longer-term, patients are usually able to return to a normal diet and routine fairly quickly following their surgery.

When to Consider Dental Implants

When you lose a tooth, your jawbone begins to deteriorate. Dental implants replace your teeth in a way that preserves healthy bone and tissue so they can heal and regain their strength. If you’re missing one or more teeth, dental implants could be an excellent option for preserving your remaining teeth. However, dental implants are not always viable, depending on your oral health and lifestyle choices. At ClockTower Dental Associates, we’ll examine all of these factors to determine if dental implants are right for you.
